Flowers in step with the seasons: how to choose without forcing it

19 October 2026 · 2 min read

Sometimes a photo saved months ago becomes the starting point for a bouquet. You love its light, the way the colours meet or the freedom of the stems. Then you find out the flowers in the picture aren't available on the date you want.

This is where it helps to separate the species from the atmosphere. Availability depends on the season, suppliers and stock; the style of an arrangement can be interpreted in more than one way.

Spring: a fresh proposal

For a bouquet with a spring feel, we would start from light shades and space between the flowers. You can ask for a loose composition in which every shape can be seen.

If you especially want tulips or peonies, say so in the first conversation and check availability for your order date. Seeing a flower in the shop doesn't guarantee it can be included at any time.

Summer: colour and a freer rhythm

A bright palette can suggest a summer's day without copying an exact photo. For someone who loves contrast, you could suggest a touch of yellow next to pink or violet tones.

Choose what you want to stay essential: the main colour, the airy shape or a particular flower. That gives the florist the freedom to build around one clear reference point.

Autumn: depth without excess

For autumn, we suggest shades of copper, cream, burgundy or green. You don't need to use them all. Two or three well-chosen tones can give the arrangement enough expression.

Texture matters as much as the palette. A mix of round shapes and finer lines can make a bouquet interesting without making it heavy.

Winter: an arrangement that leaves room for the home

A winter bouquet doesn't have to look festive. White and green can support a simple gesture; one strong accent can tie it to a particular occasion.

If the flowers are for a festive table, consider the size of the table and the other objects on it. The arrangement needs to find its place between people, plates and conversation.

Decide what can be substituted

Before confirming the order, say what is a must and where you accept alternatives. A substitution agreed in advance can keep the intention of the bouquet without an impossible promise of an exact match.
