How to choose a bouquet that suits the person receiving it

When you choose flowers for someone dear, it's easy to start with the question “What's the most beautiful bouquet?”. A more useful question would be: “What would suit this person?”.
You don't need to know the name of every flower. A few observations about the person receiving the gift give the florist a much clearer direction than a long list of species.
Start with a personal detail
Think about the colours they wear, how they arrange their home or a bouquet they once admired. Do they prefer understated things or love contrast? Do they like orderly shapes or arrangements that look freshly picked from the garden?
Don't turn the answers into a rigid rule. They are clues. If you know for sure they don't like a particular flower, say that too: a clear preference can matter more than assumptions about their taste.
Let the occasion set the tone
For a birthday, you can choose an arrangement with presence. For a “thank you”, a small, carefully chosen bouquet is sometimes enough. In a professional relationship, a balanced palette and a simple message can make the gesture easier to receive.
The place matters too. A bouquet given at a restaurant has to be carried on afterwards; one sent to the home goes into a vase more easily. This practical detail is worth discussing along with how the flowers look.
Mention your budget from the start
Your budget is working information, not something to hide. It helps the florist propose a coherent arrangement and explain the options available.
Say whether the amount includes delivery and any extras. That way the choice stays comfortable and there are no surprises at the end.
A simple request that helps a lot
You could put it like this: “It's for my sister, she likes warm shades and simple things. I'd prefer an airy arrangement, within this budget. The bouquet is going to her home.”
You've already said who it's for, what style you're after and where it will be received. If a particular flower matters a lot, check its availability before confirming.
